The biggest waterpolo event in North America was hosted in Dallas for the first time ever!!! The Junior Olympics is usually hosted in California, but with Covid and California shutting down to outsiders, the rest of the country came our way. Matthew's team just barely qualified and was super excited to even play being that it's a newly formed team. Coach Matt and Jake's team went in the competition in 1st place for southwest region in qualifiers.
Who knew waterpolo was so big in the New England area. Connecticut has a huge program with multiple teams in each division taking most of the gold medals. Coach Matt and Jake's team ended in 5th place in the country! Matthew's team 36th? I think - it was awesome to even qualify. The competition was tough!
Lots of fun to be had between games with eating a hibachi grills, Café Brazil, Torchy's taco, and Burger Village to name a few. Team meetings at homes and top golf were much enjoyed.
Rumor is USA Waterpolo had such good feedback from all the teams across the country that now Junior Olympics will continue to be hosted in Texas! (which mean little travel expenses for us)
Coach Matt and Jake's team played most of their games at Jesuit's new pool, whereas Matthew's team played at SMU and the new Garland aquatic center at Firewheel.
These are the last games for Matthew as he has aged out, but what a way to end it all!
