Spring Happenings

This past spring of 2020 marks a new era for everyone as the COVID pandemic hit the U.S. resulting in major changes in everything! Waterpolo season shut down after only 3 gamedays. Ballet company competitions cancelled, prom cancelled, end of year recital cancelled, confirmation sacrament cancelled, and all masses cancelled. We dressed up and watched Easter mass live from the Dallas cathedral. Jillian and I attended a friend's wedding this past January (all other family at a waterpolo tournament in Houston.) Thank goodness she chose January instead of a March wedding. After recovering over the many disappointments, we have enjoyed our family time together. Matt and I continue to work as well as our teens. My work has changed tremendously as they are not allowing visitors in the NICU. Only 1 parent. Very hard to tell these parents when mom gets discharged from hospital, only one can come up to visit. As nurses we are having to wear googles/face shields with patient care and masks at all times. We have been blessed not to have been exposed thus far (that we know of.) We, however, did get some good news: Ava was one of 16 dental hygiene students selected into the program at Collin College. She will do a dual with Wichita State University all online for her bachelors. Jillian was invited into a ballet company called Vivace and is still waiting on the decision from the director to place her en pointe. Hopefully, she'll find out soon. Rachael was invited back to her ballet company, Capriccio as a 1st corps member. Nutcracker tryouts are happening soon. Concerns of course whether there will be a show or not fill our minds, but we must prepare in case. Many changes with how kids finished out the school year brought many people reaching out to me with help in homeschooling. As I try to explain to people, that what they are having to do with the online learning set up through the school district is NOT true homeschooling and not at all what I do. Even the kids co-ops and dual credit college classes were changed to an online format. We all have been effected by this!

Anyone else opens their kid's mail to see if they got accepted -just me? (some of us needed to know how our evening was going to play out)

A visit from the Our Lady of Fatima Statue that travels throughout the world in order to spread her message from the 1917 apparitions to the 3 shepherd children in Portugal.

Just because we all happened to coordinate our outfits for rehearsal

Happy 17th bday to Matthew (quarantine style) - just us

New daily PPE wear for patient care - ugh!

Watching mass live online for Easter
some are not a fan of online classes and then some are - covid support kitty

When you are quarantined from your friends and siblings are all busy you round up your best action figures/ stuffies for a challenging board game.

Another Driver

This past January, Matthew took his drivers test and its official - We have another TEEN driver UGH!!! I mean YAY!!! Not long after he past his test, he went and bought his first car. He's been saving up these past 2 years for one. I think he did good! He bought a 2017 Ford Focus with leather and all the safety feature mom's like. We're so proud of you Matthew. Lady at the bank was so impressed she waived fees for obtaining a certified check.

Texas History Field Trip

One of the benefits of homeschooling is the many field trips to enhance our learning. Rachael took a middle school Texas History class at a co-op this year and they planned a fun trip to the stockyards! We had cowboys run our tours, perform tricks with lassos, educate us on the history of the cowboy life, and demonstrate a cattle drive through town with long horns (a daily tradition in Fort Worth.) We saw one of the longest lit light bulbs, 111 years as of time of picture.

Christmas in July

Finally, I have a moment to put our Christmas pics on a slideshow and post. What different times we are in compared to these photos... I had to work this past Christmas and Christmas Eve so we decided to escape the week before to a little cabin in the woods in Broken Bow, OK. Probably one of the most rested vacations I've had in a while. Really did nothing but watch a bunch a Christmas movies, ate amazing foods, worked on puzzles, played some games, and most importantly spent time together as a family. It was a blessing! Kids keep asking when are we going back. Maybe we'll do a summer trip there one day...
